Last night on the trail

Tomorrow we ride triumphantly into Santiago Di Compestella. It is only twenty k's so Ray assures me we should be there for midday mass! If it was anything like today, we might make it by midnight. It took us 90 mins to travel 8 kilometres this morning, as the path consisted of very steep inclines and loads of walkers and washed out bits with rocks. Even when we scrambled to the top of a climb, we could'nt enjoy the descent, as we had to dismount to get our bikes over the ruts and rocks. I insisted that we take the road, so after a lot of argy bargy about which road etc, we found ourselves on a major highway that probably took two hours off the trip. It didn't rain as much today and thankfully we arrived at our hotel without the drowned rats, although I did see an actual drowned rat on one of the village roads earlier.

I have finally got the hang of the bike and was rather proud of making it up a particularly steep hill, and didn't have to get off and walk on any of the mountain bits today. We arrived in time to see Costa win the world bike riding championships. Those guys ride in 7 hours what we will have ridden in 7 days!

I'm really looking forward to travelling in a car. We are going to travel along the Bay of Biscay and to Asturias on our way to Barcelona. Maybe the weather will fine up too.
