Day five on the Camino

Tomorrow is out last big day of riding. Thank God. Even Ray admitted tonight that the ride is difficult. It took us 4 hours to dodge walkers, push the bikes over rough tracks, through mud and over stones, to reach half way today. It then took two hours to finish the next half, because it was on roads, but the mountains and the rain didn't stay away. We arrived once more at our destination like drowned rats. At least I wasn't hypothermic today, and they do have a hair dryer to dry the gear.

The highlight today was the cowpoo sprayer (well I hope it was cow poo).  We have come across lots of fields smelling of poo. Today we actually saw them doing it. We had to fight our way in front of some walkers to speed past the sprayer, but just as we were level with him, a bunch of cows, responsible for it, decided to get those pesky pilgrims by walking down the narrow path and forcing us to stop and smell the roses, or other stuff.  And then it rained. And rained and rained. And there were lots of long climbs. But I must be getting better at this bike thing, as I managed to get to the top without stopping, most of the time. Jane, if you are thinking of doing it, bring your electric bike.

Ray only managed to get us lost once today. Unfortunately, it was down a steep decline, so yes, we had to go back up it. Actually, I only went half way and expressed my view that it was the wrong way. Ray had to go down, very down, to discover that I was right. But any unnecessary climb, no matter how far, is rather disconcerting.

Anyway, we have enjoyed another pilgrims meal with another free bottle of wine, so I must go have a sleep of the exhausted, because tomorrow is destined to be the biggest and worst ride of the trip.
