We did it!

And Ray is alive too! We had a very easy (well, apart from two steep dirt climbs and one long highway climb) ride into Santiago this morning. It was only twenty Km's and it hardly rained. I don't know why we didn't wait for this afternoon, as it has been raining a lot, probably because Santiago is one of the wettest places in Spain.

So, no more sore bums, no more bike pants, no more panting and ranting up mountains, no more sodden clothes, no more Buon Caminos, no more in-the-way walkers. Geez, I'll miss it. This morning, on the dirt track, Ray said "beep" so I dutifully shouted Beep-beep (no bells on bikes) but what he actually said was "steep", which caught me unawares as I can only see Ray's back in front of me. Fortunately I hadn't changed out of first gear, and the walkers got out of the way, and I magnificently made it up the steep gradient.

We spent quite a bit of time looking for our hotel after we had found the cathedral. We ditched the bikes and raced off  on foot back to the cathedral, passing a single walker who was quite emotionally overcome by the whole event. I would be too if I had spent the last six weeks walking the trail. As it was, I was ready to kill Ray and bury him in the cathedral crypt.

however, we bought discounted (because we were pilgrims) tickets to the cathedral museum and spent several hours wandering through it and the cathedral. I am totally over it now. Had to go and have some lunch at 6pm, and then find some chocolate. I spied some in a bottleshop (only looking for chocolate, honest) so we purchased 300gms for 4 euro. Then, three doors down Ray found an actual chocolate shop and had to buy some more. He got some dark nut chocolate for three times the price. We had to rush back to our room and compare.

So here we are, survivors of the Camino, sitting on our bed, checking emails, eating chocolate, smelling Ray's stinky shoes and listening to the rain. Hurry on 10pm so we can eat.

Brenda and the slave.
