At a different beach

I drove three hours along a very scenic highway through tunnels and over some very high bridges without incident or accident today. We are now at Ribadesella, in a posh hotel on the beachfront. Of course we managed to get lost when we finally arrived in the town, but it is so nice we have decided to stay an extra day. And we can hire bikes and canoes here! (Take me out and shoot me).

We walked around to the Tito Bustillo cave, hoping to book a tour for tomorrow, but they had a cancelation, so we got to see the huge limestone cave with horses painted from the palaeolithic era. We didn't think we would be able to go in, so were just dressed for walking in the sun. It got quite chilly and the tour was in Spanish, but at least we had had an opportunity to tour the accompanying museum, so knew what to look out for. Pesky English tourists being one thing. Only one other couple spoke English, and they kept complaining about the lack of light. I think they wanted the horses lit up in fluro pink!

Dinner can be an interesting time, depending if the menu has pictures, or has an English version, or not. Tonight was an or not night. We ordered from the daily menu, and had some nice food but the local vino blanco was more vinegar blanco, and when I ordered an espresso and a tea, I got an espresso and a larger espresso. Ray dipped out!

The sun shone all day today, after a bad storm with thunder and lightning last night. Hopefully the rain is behind us. I am planning on a swim in the morning, a walk to a lake and up a small hill. Ray assures me it will only take a few minutes.....

Here's some photos, with one of me standing next to a camino sign - there is a north camino trail, which looks even harder than the usual one. I am sure Ray will want to come back to do it, as the mountains are 500m higher.
